Our history

We are an Assemblies of God Group (AOG) church.

In the early 1980’s the Durban North Assembly of God was a flourishing church under the leadership of Malcolm Hedding. They noticed a growing number of people attending the church from the Westville area and the vision was cast to plant a new church in Westville. This happened in 1981. God blessed it and the new church grew steadily.

Soon a growing number of people from Hillcrest and Gillitts were attending the Westville church and so in a bold step of pioneering faith it was decided to plant a church in the upper highway area.

In 1987 the Gillitts AOG was started in the home of Henry and Sharon von Mollendorf.

Around 1990 the land on which the church presently stands was bought and an Easter tent campaign was held with Donovan Coetzee as the guest speaker.

The church continued to grow and by 1992 had outgrown the von Mollendorf home so the meetings were moved to Winston Park Primary School and then later to the Gillitts Town Hall.

Ministry was supplied by various AOG ministers like Malcolm Hedding; Ron Gardiner; Noel Cromhout; Paul Lange and others.

In 1994 the church was in a position to begin building its own facility and in 1995 Mike Roscoe was appointed as the first full-time pastor. He was followed in 1998 by Cliff Rutter. Arnold du Plessis led the church from 2000-2011, with a one year sabbatical during which time Neville Chapman led the church. Rob Fick then took over as the pastor in 2012 and continues to date.
